This is a stunning Bateba Figure from the Lobi tribe with a decorous shiny patina. Bateba figures were created to house the essence of Thil, a nature spirit that harnesses supernatural powers. Unlike other cultures who have craftsmen that train for years to become a sculptor, the Lobi carve figures freely. This explains the variety of craftsmanship, some figures look primitive while others show a high degree of skilled labor, but does not make one more valuable than the other.
