This is a beautiful piece created by the Lobi tribe in Burkina Faso. Known as a bateba, it houses the essence of Thil, a nature spirit that harnesses supernatural powers. Families would accumulate a collection of bateba figures, housing them in a shrine room known as a thilda. Sacrificial offerings are frequently extended in hopes of good fortune.
