This figure was carved in the style of the Lega people of DRC. The figure features has a typical Lega style heart-shaped face attached to a set of legs, without a midsection. It measures 8 inches tall, 9.5 inches tall on its base and weighs 1.5 pounds. There are cracks in the base and the back side of the figure – please see photos.

About the Lega People

Lega art is exclusively focused on and associated with the Bwami society. Each object has a precise role and function within their ceremonies and rituals and is used only by the initiated. These artefacts are numerous and are created from a variety of materials, particularly wood, ivory, bone and elephant hide.
